Join us for this one-day prenatal class as you prepare for your baby's arrival! This class will offer evidence-based information that will give you the confidence to care for yourself and your little one! Led by Erin and Christine, our experienced Birth and Postpartum Doulas with over 15-years of combined experience. There will be a few breaks plus a short break for lunch.
Topics we will cover:
The Birth Process
We will talk about what to expect in the different stages of labour. You will learn about when to go to your place of birth. Different positions for labour and optimal pushing. We will discuss possible interventions and the importance of the 'golden hour'.
Comfort Measures for Labour
Learn about many different comfort techniques that can be used at all stages of labour. As well as fostering good communication with your care provider and how a partner can be their best in their support.
The 4th Trimester
What is the 4th trimester? You will learn all about normal baby behaviour from the newborn stage to 3 months all while focusing on taking care of yourself so you can care for your baby.
Feeding Your Baby
Learning to breastfeed is best WITH your baby but this workshop will help you feel more confident before you learn together. Also, troubleshooting, common challenges and the resources to help. We will also discuss when breastfeeding doesn’t work out and help you know what alternatives are available.
What is normal infant sleep? In this part of the class, we will help you learn and understand what normal infant sleep looks like and tips on strategies to use so you can get the rest you need. Common topics: Swaddling? Soothers? Safe Sleep Surfaces?
Christine Crook is one of our Co-Founders, a fierce momma bear, and is passionate about the world of birth and postpartum. Christine has been a birth and postpartum doula for 10 years and she has worked with over 200 families, supporting them throughout the entire birthing process and as an experience prenatal education teacher.
Erin Kasungu is one of our Co-Founders at Rooted Family Wellness Centre and an experienced birth and postpartum doula. Erin is also a pre/postnatal fitness specialist helping clients on their wellness journey no matter their fitness level. She is committed to helping parents feel prepared, informed and supported in their birth experience. She believes that parents must prepare their whole self for their birth and baby. That includes the mind, body, and most importantly, the heart (and having a sense of humour too!).
