A simple snack for breastfeeding parents.

Breastfeeding demands energy, hydration, and steady nourishment. Many parents find themselves hungry often, especially in the early months. Having easy, nutrient dense snacks nearby can make a big difference during those long feeding days. These moringa lactation cookies are quick to make, packed with whole food ingredients, and offer a gentle boost of plant based nutrition.

Why Moringa

Ingredients for lactation cookies in a blender

Moringa is known for its impressive nutrient profile. It contains iron, calcium, antioxidants, and plant protein. For lactating parents, moringa has been studied for its potential to support milk production. Even if you are simply looking for a powerhouse ingredient to add to your snacks, moringa is an excellent choice.

In these cookies, the moringa flavor changes depending on the bake. Thinner cookies crisp up and mellow out the grassy notes. Thicker cookies stay chewy which lets the earthy moringa taste come through.

Six cookies contain about one teaspoon of moringa, which is roughly a daily dose of five grams.

The Recipe

Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 cups oats
  • 1 cup dates
  • 1 tablespoon ground flax seeds
  • 1 tablespoon moringa powder
  • 1 tablespoon ginger
  • 1 third cup maple syrup
  • 4 tablespoons seed butter
  • 1 quarter teaspoon salt

Instructions

  1. Add all ingredients to a food processor and blitz until the mixture is combined and sticky.
  2. Divide the dough into 3 large chunks, then divide each chunk into 6 pieces to create 18 cookies.
  3. Bake at 350 F or 180 C for about 10 minutes or until golden.
  4. For crispy cookies, flatten the dough well before baking. For chewy cookies, leave them thicker.
  5. Cool for at least 10 minutes. They crisp up even more as they cool.

Bonus: This dough is delicious raw and can be rolled into powerballs for a quick snack.

Feeding Yourself While You Feed Your Baby

Here is a tip from one of our nutritionists that is currently a postpartum mom: eat and drink every time you feed your baby. Making breastmilk requires extra calories and lots of liquid. Many parents unintentionally run on empty because they are focused on feeding their little one. Keeping quick snacks like these cookies nearby can make a huge difference in your energy and mood.
